National Curriculum Assessments 2024/25 - Information for Parents

Update from the Department for Education regarding the National Curriculum Assessments for the academic year 2024/25.

Primary school pupils in England take part in the following national assessments:

Year R - reception baseline assessment: within the first 6 weeks of entering reception

Year R - earlyyearsfoundationstageprofileassessment : between April and June of the academic year in which they turn 5 (usually the reception year)

Year 1 - phonics screening check, June 2025

Year 2 - key stage 1 tests: optional, at the school’s discretion, June 2025

Year 4 - multiplication tables check, June 2025

Year 6 - key stage 2 tests (sometimes referred to as SATs), May 2025

New Assessment model for Schools - 'Assessment without levels'

Following the introduction of a new National Curriculum framework from September 2014 the government has removed level descriptors for assessing pupils' attainment. Schools have been given the freedom to develop their own approaches to assessment to align with their curriculum and to meet the needs of their pupils.
